Cape Fear Wine and Beer

About Us

If It Was Easy Everyone Would Be Doing This:

Cape Fear Wine and Beer was immaculately conceived in the spring of 2003. We are located in Downtown Wilmington, NC near the beautiful Cape Fear River. Unique in concept, we are a combination of a bar and a specialty beer and wine store. The ground on which our establishment stands is steeped in history. Battles, chivalry and ale have long coursed this location, attracting the attention of historians and paranormal enthusiasts alike. It simply feels right to be here.

There are No Frozen Mugs Here

We pride ourselves in our large craft beer selection, which is around 300 in variety. Our inventory of beer is considered the best in the region and is constantly evolving with seasonal and limited releases. Most of our beer is bottle-conditioned, sold warm and cold, and we only sell Anheuser-Busch one day of the year: April 1st. Cape Fear Wine and Beer is not a mega draft line establishment and we never use frozen glassware. We always have great ale on draught. Whether it’s a Barleywine, Russian Imperial, or Double IPA, it’s sure to be a rare brew to remember. Our bar uses an Angram beer engine, which we use to its full advantage. We strive to serve our beer at proper temperature and our glasses are assuredly beer clean.

We Fought The Law:

In 2005 we played a large role in changing a state law which forbade beers over 6% ABV. Through our efforts we were successful in raising the alcohol cap to 15%. Our selections of beers reflect the fact that we have stood on the forefront of brand availability, and have dedicated ourselves to our customers’ tastes.

If You’re Looking For Yellow Tail, Go To The Grocery Store:

When it comes to wine we march to our own beat, never relying on what the magazines, journals, and purveyors claim to be the “next big thing”. We have personally researched and tasted our stock and offer rare and affordable gems of the wine world. We’re always happy to give a sample of the unique wine that we are pouring.

Escape The Ordinary:

It’s hard to describe the warm feeling you get when you walk into Cape Fear Wine and Beer. If feels like…well, home. It’s been described as the Mecca of the Beer World, a den of empirical thought. Punk Rock and Nuclear Physics fill the air of conversation. This is where beautiful women come to avoid the ‘meat market’ of college bars, where scientists can discuss theories, where organic beers can escape the smell of patchouli and car mechanics can avoid NASCAR. This is where the palate can escape boredom.
